Winnebago County Animal Services Hosts Discounted “New Years, New Best Friend” Adoption Event

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Winnebago County Animal Services (WCAS) invites all interested adopters to start their new year with a new friend!

On Friday, January 21 and Saturday, January 22, WCAS is offering discounted adoptions for dogs that have been in their facility since before the New Year. These selected dogs will be available for adoption for only $22 during this event.

“We have seen an increase in our dog population over the past few weeks,” says Amber Pinnon, Adoption and Volunteer Program Coordinator. “We have several dogs who have been looking for families since last year and hope this event will allow these dogs to find their forever homes.”

Participants must have an adoption application approved by WCAS. Adopters are encouraged to have their applications pre-approved prior to the event. Applications can be submitted online by visiting or by visiting WCAS at 4517 N. Main St. in Rockford.

All adoptions include a wellness exam, neutering or neutering, microchipping, vaccinations including a year-long rabies shot, flea and tick prevention, and more. Winnebago County residents also receive a one-year rabies registration tag.

The guidelines include:

  • Must be at least 18 years old or older
  • Show a state-issued photo ID
  • All pets in the household must be current with a rabies vaccination and county pet license
  • Few or no animal complaints recorded
