Southern Pines Animal Shelter Adoption Event Draws Raves

PETAL, Miss. (WDAM) – Southern Pines Animal Sanctuary is doing its best to find “permanent homes” for their animals.

And sometimes that means waiving fees to ensure the pet finds the perfect family.

“We’ve been really focused for the past few years on helping families keep their pets, so we’ve tried to bolster our resources and work with other community organizations to provide low-cost veterinary care, pet food affordable pets, even help finding a pet. friendly accommodations, different things like that,” said Sarah Krock, community engagement manager for the shelter,

Recently, the shelter partnered with PetSmart and Petco to help animals find their new homes.

“We’ve done 77 cat and cat and dog adoptions,” she said. “All thanks to our friends at Best Friends. They were really, really generous, and we were able to waive all those adoption fees with their funding.

“It was truly an amazing event, it’s one of the biggest adoption events we’ve had in years.”

In addition to cancellation fees, the shelter also does open adoptions, which means it doesn’t require any vet or background checks. Instead, he’s having a conversation with potential adopters.

“We require people to meet the animal before adopting it to make sure it’s going to work,” Krock said. “And then we just have the very brief adoption profile, just to collect all the information for the microchip and make sure everything is going to work fine.”

Additionally, Southern Pines supports the community aspect of this event: making adoption accessible to all potential adopters.

“The most exciting thing was making adoption really accessible to everyone,” Krock said. “And we try to do it on our own anyway. We have variable adoption fees that are based on the individual animal, so we can try to make a great choice for anyone with any budget.

“But adoption events like this are exciting because they’re really open to everyone in the community.”

Southern Pines Animal Shelter is open to all potential new adopters and can be reached at (601) 544-6632.
