Walk-in visitors were welcomed back to Redlands Animal Shelter on Tuesday July 26, more than two years after authorities restricted public access due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Animal advocates have been pushing for the shelter to reopen in recent months due, among other things, to concerns about adoption rates. The shelter closed to walk-in visitors in March 2020.
In an email Tuesday afternoon, city spokesman Carl Baker said operations at the shelter were “going smoothly” and noted that the facility had enough staff to accommodate visitors. and answer questions while maintaining field services.
Volunteers will also be allowed to return to the shelter, which is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The shelter, located at 504 Kansas St., is closed Sunday and Monday.
