Animal shelter

Georgetown Animal Shelter hours are changing

Starting Monday, August 29, the Georgetown Animal Shelter will resume operations by appointment. The refuge will be closed to foot traffic.

Staff turnover and increased animal consumption has created a need for our staff to better manage workloads as new employees are recruited, hired and trained. In the meantime, appointments will be required to visit the refuge.

  • Stray animals will be accepted by appointment only, provided there is room at the shelter. To make an appointment, call 512-930-3592 or email [email protected]
  • Lost animals will be returned to their owners by appointment. Owners who are missing pets should complete a lost pet report at, email a description to [email protected] or call 512-930-3592 .
  • Surrendered animals will only be accepted in an emergency to minimize the number of animals entering the shelter. Signs on the door and online will encourage people to call to make an appointment.
  • Adoption will be by appointment. Interested adopters can view dogs and cats available for adoption at and submit an application online. After reviewing the request, staff will contact you to schedule appointments.
  • Municipal licenses will be sold at, or by phone, email or mail.
  • Animal Control will continue business as usual. Service calls should be directed to 512-930-3510, option 6.

Appointments for dropping off stray animals, returning animals and picking up animals must be made during normal business hours. Residents can contact the shelter by calling 512-930-3592 or emailing [email protected]

During this period, the opening hours of the refuge will be as follows:

  • Monday, Tuesday and Friday: 11am-5pm
  • Wednesday: closed
  • Thursday: 11am-6pm
  • Sunday to Sept. 4: 12 p.m.-4 p.m.
