Community Foundation awards $161,000 in animal welfare grants

The Community Foundation of Sarasota County has awarded more than $161,000 to 13 nonprofit organizations through its annual round of animal welfare grants.

With support from the Helen C. Schwieder Fund, the Robert Parker Fund and others, the grants will fund veterinary treatment for emergencies or extraordinary medical needs and provide support for volunteer host programs.

“Animals complete our families and homes in incalculable ways, and it is our privilege to strengthen the organizations that serve our lifelong companions,” said Kirsten Russell, Vice President for Community Impact. “With animal welfare at the forefront of their programs, our nonprofit partners create heartfelt connections and bring us closer to a more humane community.”

Programs supported include the Animal Rescue Coalition; the Birds of Paradise Sanctuary; Feline Friends of Southwest Florida; Humane Society at Lakewood Ranch; Services for lost animals; Mote Marine Laboratory; Nate’s Honor Animal Rescue; Sarasota Manatee Association for Equine Therapy; St. Francis Animal Rescue of Venice; Suncoast Humane Society; Venice Wildlife Center; Venice Cats Coalition; and Vintage Paws Sanctuary.
