Barks N ‘Brews to raise money for new animal shelter | Events

With the arrival of fall weather, now is a good time to listen to live music, beers, and cute dogs.

By hosting their first Barks N ‘Brews, Friends of the Animal Shelter hope to raise funds through a combination of all three.

“We wanted to do some sort of concert and involve the animals in some way. And so it kind of grew out of that idea, ”said Whitney Zoghby, president of Friends of the Animal Shelter.

Taking place on Saturday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the future home of the St. Joseph Animal Shelter, 5909 Corporate Drive, the Friends of the Animal Shelter hope the event will become a tradition.

“This is our first Barks N ‘Brews. However, we hope to make it an annual event, ”said Zoghby.

The four-hour event will mix live music from Tricia Trusty from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., Stephanie Gummelt from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. and star Swift Kik from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event will also feature food trucks and beer and wine will be available for purchase.

Admission to the event is $ 10 per person, with the money going to the ongoing “Wags to Wishes” fundraising campaign to renovate and move to a new shelter.

“We are going to host it just outside of what is going to be the shelter,” Zoghby said.

While the documents for the new shelter were signed in 2019, a combination of conflicts with the COVID-19 pandemic and rising costs have prompted the Friends of the Animal Shelter to get creative with its ongoing fundraisers.

“We continue to fundraise simply because the costs have increased. COVID construction costs have gone up and then obviously inflation over the years as well. That’s why we continue to have fundraisers like these. And of course, continue to raise awareness of the new shelter and the need for donations, ”Zoghby said.

For the event, people are welcome to bring their dogs while they relax and listen to music. The animal shelter will also have adoptable dogs on site to meet what their new families might be.

“It would be a little too loud and distracting to take cats out, but we do take dogs out. So I hope we will get some interested adopters out of it. And then you just have to publicize our organization and the importance of adoption, ”Zoghby said.

Tickets can be purchased at the door or online for $ 10 at People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. The event is open to all ages.
