AKI’s Grants Program for African Animal Welfare Organizations

Animal-Kind International (AKI) is seeking applications for its Grants Program for Animal Welfare Organizations based in Africa, AKI’s 5th annual grant program, designed to help worthy organizations based in Africa, beyond the partner organizations, able to implement high-impact projects aimed at improving the lives of pets.

Animal Kind International is a US-based organization that raises funds for animal welfare, rescue and protection organizations in resource-poor countries. They support their partner organizations and their funding typically covers the operating costs of cat and dog shelters/sanctuaries, community animal care clinics, street cat and dog care, spaying/neutering programs, working and abandoned donkeys and horses, and a humane education. in schools and communities.

Financing needs

AKI’s 2022 African Animal Welfare Organizations Grant Scheme, 5 from AKIeannual grant program, is intended to help worthy organizations based in Africa, beyond their partner organizations, able to implement high-impact projects aimed at improving the lives of pets. AKI will only consider funding for:

  • Projects that benefit cats, dogs, donkeys and/or horses (secondarily they will consider projects that benefit cattle, goats, sheep, chickens and pigs).
  • Existing organizations based in Africa that have been operating in the animal welfare sector for at least 3 years.
  • Organizations that are currently and actively engaged in their communities to improve the lives of animals.
  • Projects that can be completed within 6 months of receiving funds.
  • Projects that demonstrate sustainability and provide assurance that efforts will continue beyond the grant period.
Eligibility criteria

Any organization based in Africa and operating for at least 3 years in the animal welfare sector, registered as an NGO, non-profit or similar, in its country of operation, and whose main objective is to improve the lives of pets in their community. To apply, your organization must be in good standing (all required government documents must comply with national laws and must be up to date).
